Tony Burke, Community Chapter Executive, will be giving an update on the transformational changes that occurring within the American Red Cross which the Sioux Empire Chapter is on the leading edge. He will also talk about some recent state-wide disasters/responses, their Disaster Preparedness/Ready Rating Program & their upcoming Growing Resilient Project in Sioux Falls scheduled for Sat, Oct 11th as part of Fire Prevention Week (ie, installing smoke alarms in an at-risk neighborhood). It is a relevant topic to our industry & will be an informative meeting

 

Tony retired with almost 20 years in the fire service, 14 years as a career fire fighter in Coquitlam, British Columbia. While being a fire fighter, Mr. Burke was elected as a volunteer Executive Director of the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund from 2002-09. The Burn Fund focused on prevention and education programs while supporting provincial burn units and long term recovery of burn patients and their families. In 2008, Mr. Burke was appointed to the International Association of Fire Fighters’ Burn Foundation.Tony came to the American Red Cross in June of 2012 in Iowa where he focused on Community Resiliency initiatives, regional AmeriCorps Program and chapter development. Mr. Burke was promoted to Community CEO in Sioux Falls beginning in May, 2013. In November, 2013, a pilot project titled Growing Resilient – Sioux Falls was successfully rolled out under his leadership.
